Nasolabial Folds

Frequently Asked Questions

Nose to Mouth Lines
As you get older you may begin to notice lines and wrinkles. These can be in the form of nose to mouth lines, or folds. There might also be lines from the edge of your mouth to your chin, which are called marionette lines. If you are a smoker you may also have lines around your top lip. These lines and many others like it can be treated with non-surgical procedures using dermal filler.

Here are the answers to some of the most popular questions we get asked about this type of procedure.

How do you treat the lines?
By using dermal fillers, we are able to treat your face to a fuller, healthier, younger appearance and smooth away the lines.

What are the dermal fillers?
The dermal fillers come from hyaluronic acid; we use Intraline dermal fillers

We have hyaluronic acid in our bodies already. It gives our skin the elasticity and plumpness that gives us our youthful appearance. Fillers are produced as a gel and doesn’t contain animal or human DNA which means it is one of the safest fillers on the market today.

How is it administered?
Firstly, we apply a topical anaesthetic which is a strong numbing cream to your lips. The lip area is sensitive and we want you to feel comfortable throughout the procedure. The fillers are then injected into the appropriate areas and massaged to provide the natural look you require.

When will I see the results?
You won’t see the real results of your lip enhancement for a couple of days, as the procedure does leave the lips a little swollen, but once the swelling has reduced you will see the difference. The area should be left to heal for at least 24 hours after the injections in order to prevent infections. After this time, you can use your usual creams and lipsticks, if you wish.

How long do fillers last?
It will normally last between 4 -12 months. Although each person is different, some will find it doesn’t last the full 6 months. This can be caused by smoking, fast metabolism, regular exercise or kissing.

Is there any time when I shouldn’t use dermal filler for lip enhancement?
You shouldn’t use dermal fillers when you are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Although the dermal fillers we use don’t migrate through the body, there are no studies to show the effects on an unborn or feeding child.

Medically it is recommended that cosmetic procedures aren’t carried out at this time.

Are there any side effects?
If you are suffering from cold sores, the treatment may give you another outbreak. However, you can use your usual medication to treat them. There will also be some swelling which might last a couple of days. There might also be some bruising where the injection was given and it may be slightly painful or itchy.

However, the discomfort should only last a few days. If you’re worried about after effects please don’t hesitate to call us or book a consultation where we can answer all your questions.

Do you do any other cosmetic treatments?
